As an Englishman, knowing what the French had to deal with, they are a proud nation and deservedly so. Try some history before you post inane xenophobic references regarding the bravery of the French. It's unfounded.
can't help but question just how many of those female-pummelling, razor-wielding "patriots" were Heil Hitler-ing and jew denouncing/deporting with the very best of them during the entire nation's collaboration with the 3rd Reich (does the name "Vichy" ring a bell? anyone? Bueller?) and don't give me any of that CdeG "Free France" nonsense either...
easy to caste blame and call them traitors, but then the victor always writes the history. all they did was what they needed to do survive. can't blame anyone for self preservation. I bet no one shot the jews who worked the gas chambers and the ovens just to stay alive
A lot of those women did not have a choice about having sex. I feel the most sorry for the women who were left with babies from the Germans who likely forced them to have sex (maybe in payment for food, maybe not). Then, after the war they were betrayed by their own countrymen and left to survive again. I doubt there were many of these women "looking for comfort" with sex. The risk of pregnancy would have been too high. If food was scarce contraception would have been even harder to find. Trading sex for safety would have been a comfort, but about as comfortable as sleeping on pins and needles.
